“I was born November 20, 1920 in Canada. My folks were farmers. I was always hungry to make some money so I would raise some chickens and sell them to my dad for 25 cents each. One time the neighbor came over because he wanted to buy a gallon of milk. He told me he couldn’t pay me until after 30 days when he bought it. I said okay and for the next 30 days I would deliver the milk and eggs until the 30th day I went over to get the money and he was gone. I cried the whole way home. It was one of the best days of my life because it allowed me to learn and never let another man beat me again.”
